SUMMARY:Saturday Signing – Come and meet author Helen Liebling
DESCRIPTION:Come and meet writer and activist Helen Liebling and pick up a signed copy – Nalule’s Travels and Adventures. \nHelen carries out research with survivors of conflict and post-conflict sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and torture including refugees\, in the African continent and United Kingdom. Since 1998 Helen has worked in Uganda\, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo\, Rwanda\, Liberia\, and South Africa. \nDr Helen Liebling’s early life of disruption and family separation led to a passion for advocating for the rights of those who survived human rights violations. Her first musical trip to Uganda shaped Helen’s life. She developed a love for Africa\, her people\, traditional music and travel. Enchanting musical stories including wild dancing to 21-key xylophone music in rural Eastern Uganda (Busoga) a chickens on a bus and entertaining in the bars of Kampala and travelling to some of the most beautiful places in the world including African deserts\, mountains and waterfalls. \nShe discovered a love for wild swimming and hopes for the future. Fascinating\, emotional\, and uplifting; This book is a captivating narrative of hardship\, resilience\, and triumph against the odds\, told with passion and clarity by a woman who never gave up! \nThe road in Goma was black\, and rugged\, and difficult to walk on. Benoit\, my Congolese colleague and friend\, informed me that this was due to the fact the volcano had erupted near the town some years back\, and the lava had covered the streets. The streets were heaving with people wearing stunning\, bright colours and bustling with energy\, whilst navigating the spiky road resulting from the volcanic ash. In the distance\, I observed the cause of the road problems and the volcano towering above the town. What was it that led me to this lively region of Africa? All will be revealed.
